Two Key Indiana Safety Laws:
Wakeboarding & Wake Surfing Update:
Effective July 1, 2026, HB 1062 goes into effect in Indiana.
Wakeboarding & wake surfing are prohibited from sunset to sunrise on all lakes, including Clear Lake.
There are additional impacts to smaller lakes. The overall intent of HB1062 is to balance recreational use with environmental protection.
Boating Safety:
Indiana code 14-15-3-17. This long-standing boating safety rule requires all motorboats to operate at idle speed within 200 feet of any shoreline.
Please keep in mind, idle zones are not just for safety, they also protect our water quality. The lake floor plays a key role in maintaining the “clear” in Clear Lake. Disturbing the lake floor with propeller wash may release excess nutrients, triggering increased plant and algae growth.

If you are going to have extra garbage bags sitting outside your garbage receptacle for pick-up, an “Extra Bag” sticker is required. Washler has informed us that they will not be picking up any bags without the “Extra Bag” sticker on them. Stickers are available at the Town Hall for $2 per sticker.
Reminder: Please put your trash and recycling receptacles out the night before (Sunday) so your trash and recycling are not missed by Washler!

As of 9/17/25, the old analog non-emergency numbers of 260-665-3131 and 260-665-5521 have been disconnected.
Please use:
260-668-1000 ext. 4000 for non-emergency calls
260-668-1000 ext. 5000 for the Sheriff’s Administration Office
260-668-1000 ext. 5150 for the Steuben County Jail

Buoy Alert!
Boats and those in their tow need to stay 50 feet beyond all buoys.
If no buoy yet, then 100 feet from docks or other stationary objects.
The new special boating zone creates an idle zone 300 feet from shore along Point Park Drive, compared to the 200 feet from shore for the rest of the lake.
Remember inside of this distance, idle speed is required.
